Fast and easy way to secure smart and connected homes using hardware security

Smart homes are no longer a futuristic concept but an everyday reality. Their appeal is obvious: They make life easier and can help owners save money and energy. They also enable a whole new raft of innovative services and features. However, unprotected smart home devices are also a very attractive target for attackers, who can break into home networks, steal, misuse and manipulate sensitive personal data, and even gain unauthorized access to smart homes. 
Connected smart home devices can also be misused for larger-scale attacks such as DDoS attacks, which can take down entire server networks. This is why security has to be integrated into smart home networks right from the initial system design phase – we call it security by design.

  • Petra Hofmeister is a business development manager at Infineon Technologies. She is responsible for the global go-to-market strategy for embedded security solutions with special focus on smart homes. Prior to this, Petra was a business development manager for mobile device security solutions. She has a degree in business administration with a specialization in organizational and business IT.
  • Eric Seow is Principal Technical Marketing Manager at Infineon Technologies. He has more than 16 years’ experience in the embedded security and smart card industry. He is responsible for embedded security in smart homes and IoT applications. Based in the Asia-Pacific region, his areas of expertise include hardware security and certification as well as trending technologies and embedded security applications for smart homes, automotive security and smart cities. 
  • Rouven Braden is a senior development engineer at Mixed Mode GmbH, which has been based in Munich since 1994. His key area of responsibility is the development of software for embedded systems, in particular the integration of hardware security modules. In the past, Rouven was responsible for IT security in the German Armed Forces. He has a degree in computer engineering with a specialization in communication technology.
